The Griswold Inn is a bed and breakfast in Connecticut that has been open since the dawn of this country in 1776. Called ‘The Gris’ by locals, it successfully conveys the magic of days gone by.
Your room will be furnished with antiques as well as period reproductions. No two are the same, yet all are clean and comfortable.
They serve a continental breakfast and have four other historic spaces for dining in the restaurant. You can eat classic American cuisine in the Ward Room, the Gun Room, the Library, or the Covered Bridge.
The Wine Bar is nice too, but I think the best spot for a drink is the Tap Room. It was built in 1735 and attached in 1801 by a team of oxen that rolled it down Main Street on logs. The atmosphere is fun, and they have live music every night!
Essex is a haven, with cute shops and ocean views. If you come here to slow down, you will find yourself returning again and again.

Breakfast is served in the carriage room, and the omelet station is a must.
